Serpent tells a story of a samurai who, because of his overly righteous ways, gets caught up in conflicts until he is eventually discharged from service and banished from the city. Considered one of the first examples of chambara (sword-fighting) realism, the film still impresses today with its highly dynamic camerawork, especially in the chase scenes, which make effective use of the camera's mobility and showcase T. Bando's virtuoso sword skills.
